HAMBURG JUNIOR POLICE ACADEMY
The Hamburg Junior Police Academy is a course that has been designed by the officers of the Hamburg Police Department, in cooperation with the Hamburg Public School administrators and staff. The Junior Police Academy is a character-building program that will prepare the youngster for the challenges of becoming a teenager and a young adult. They will witness first hand life's pleasures and difficulties, and learn how they can help. The goal of the academy is to allow cadets to have fun, learn discipline, motivation, and experience teamwork. The Junior Police Academy is designed for Hamburg residents between grades 5-8.
Each academy session consists of various activities, such as: physical training, lectures about police related topics, practical scenarios, attending municipal court sessions, field trips (Sussex County Jail and New Jersey Law Enforcement Memorial Service), and participation in the Special Olympics Torch Run.
Class #8 graduated on June 15, 2010. The announcement for Class #9 will be made later this summer.
